1844 Completed his undergraduate degree at Balliol College, Oxford University.

1847 Worked as the private secretary for politician Lord Lansdowne.

1849 Published his first volume of poetry, The Strayed Reveller and Other Poems.

1851 Appointed Inspector of Schools.

1851 Married Frances Wightman.

1852 Wrote Empedocles on Etna and Other Poems

1857 Elected Professor of Poetry at Oxford University.

1865 Wrote Essays in Criticism

1867 Wrote Dover Beach

1869 Wrote Culture and Anarchy

1888 Passed Away.
